Website Development Grants 2013/14

Submissions closed at 5:00PM 3 December 2013 (AEDT).

Website Development grants are available to assist the development of websites for Australian community broadcasting stations and sector organisations in line with best practice website development resources.

Consideration of CBOnline sector project grants is the responsibility of the Online Grants Advisory Committee (OGAC). The grant category is once per year with the final funding decisions being made at a CBF Board meeting in February. Roughly $160,000 is available for allocation for CBOnline grants in 2013/14.

We strongly encourage you to discuss your project with the relevant CBF Grants Administrator before submitting your application. They can provide advice on the types of projects funded in this category and what information you should include in your application.

Guidelines for Website Development grants

Read these grant guidelines before you apply. The grant guidelines include important information about this grant category including what you can use the grant for and the criteria used by the Online Grants Advisory Committeeto assess your application.

1. What is the objective of Website Development grant category?

To assist the development of websites for Australian community broadcasting stations and sector organisations in line with best practice website development resources.

2. Who is eligible to apply?

  • community radio station with a long-term or a temporary licence
  • community television station with a long-term or trial licence
  • Remote Indigenous Media Organisation
  • a non-profit community broadcasting sector organisation

Creative partnerships between stations and organisations whose goals are compatible with those of community broadcasting are encouraged, however the application must come from the station/sector organisation.

A station with a temporary or trial licence must have been on air for at least two years cumulatively prior to applying.

3. How much can you apply for?

Up to $5,000 per grant. Only one application per organisation.

4. What are the priorities in this category?

Each priority is not required to be met but applications that do address one or more priority area will be looked on more favorably.

  • Websites that are modeled on best practice website development resources - such as the CBOnline Website Resource Guide.
  • Websites that are mobile and touch-friendly.
  • Websites that aggregate social media in interesting and engaging ways.
  • Websites that comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0. You can find out more more information on website accessibility at AccessiQ,org.
  • Applicants who not previously received a grant through this grant category.

5. What can you use the grant for?

  • Website development and design costs.
  • Initial content management system (CMS) software purchases.
  • Initial domain registration purchases.
  • Computing equipment necessary for the station/organisation to manage the website.

6. What can't you use the grant for?

  • Ongoing operational costs including Internet Service Provider (ISP) charges, software license fees or continuing staff positions.
  • Retrospective funding of projects, salaries or equipment.
  • Programs, projects and positions that are currently or more appropriately funded in other CBF grant categories.

7. What does the Grants Advisory Committee look at when assessing your application?

Applications will be competitively assessed according to following assessment criteria:

Priority -
 The project addresses the identified category priorities
20% How will the project be delivered? Planning - Your proposal demonstrates thorough planning of the project. 
Value -
 The methods you choose to conduct this project are cost effective for the outcomes to be produced.
20% Who is involved? Capacity - You demonstrate that you have access to the skills and resources to undertake and complete the project. 
Stakeholders - 
You identify people / partners who will contribute to and benefit from the project.
30% What will the project achieve? Impact - The project will provide lasting outcomes for your organisation, community and/or the wider community broadcasting sector. 
Evaluation - You identify how you will measure the success of the project.
