1. What is the objective of Online Streaming Platforms grant category?

To investigate online streaming hardware and software options for Australian community broadcasters.

It is expected that the investigations will result in a report that can be used by all community broadcasting stations. The report should consult fellow community broadcasters on their online streaming needs, critically review a range of online streaming software and hardware options, and provide recommendations on the best options available.

2. Who is eligible to apply?

Any community broadcasting station or sector organisation.

3. How much can you apply for?

This grant program will allocate one grant up to $10,000.

The outcome will be announced late May 2015.

4. What is the Priority in this category?

The priority is not required to be met but applications that do address the priority area will be looked on more favourably.

  • An innovative way of presenting the resource online.

  • a simple review of a large number of options;
  • in depth testing and review of a small number of the most appropriate options;
  • free and inexpensive options for smaller stations;
  • publication on a sector organisation website where it can be easily accessed by all community broadcasters;
  • direct hyperlinks to recommended options where appropriate; and
  • agreement to maintain the current nature of the resource over a period.

All options reviewed must provide audio streams that are widely accessible and must meet the following conditions for the listener:

  • The stream should be accessible to listeners across devices including desktop computers, laptop, smart phones and tablets.
  • The stream and default audio player provided by the service must be iOS, Windows and Android compatible. However the server side software (used to generate the stream) is not required to work across all these platforms.
