Indigenous Equipment Grant Round 1 2015/16

Submissions closed at 5:00PM 16 September 2015 (AEST).

Funds are available to assist the ongoing development of Indigenous community broadcasting across Australia through grants to establish or upgrade community radio production and/or broadcasting facilities.

Consideration of Indigenous Grants is the responsibility of the Indigenous Grants Advisory Committee (IGAC). In 2015/16 approximately $1,108,280 is available for all Indigenous grant categories. Grants will be announced after 12 November 2015.

We strongly encourage you to discuss your project with the relevant CBF Grants Administrator before submitting your application. They can provide advice on the types of projects funded in this category and what information you should include in your application.

Guidelines for Indigenous Equipment grants

Please read these grant guidelines before you apply.  Even if you frequently apply under this category, read them each round, as the grant guidelines are regularly revised. The grant guidelines include important information about this grant category including what you can use the grant for and the criteria used by the Indigenous Grants Advisory Committee to assess your application.

1. What's the objective of Indigenous Equipment grants?

To assist the ongoing development of Indigenous community broadcasting across Australia through grants to establish or upgrade community radio production and/or broadcasting facilities.

2. Who is eligible to apply?

You can apply for an Indigenous Equipment grant if you are:

  • an Indigenous community radio station (licensed Indigenous community radio station or RIBS station).  A Remote Indigenous Media Organisation (RIMO) may apply on behalf of a RIBS station but the equipment must be for the exclusive use of one or more RIBS stations.
  • an incorporated not for profit Indigenous media organisation producing regular Indigenous programs for broadcast on a licensed community radio station or producing sector wide resources for the benefit of Indigenous community broadcasting.

Non-Indigenous community radio stations are not eligible to apply unless auspicing the grant on behalf of a non-incorporated Indigenous broadcasting group.

Grants are not available to stations broadcasting under a narrowcast licence.

3. How much can you apply for?

A maximum of $25,000.  If you have been granted a long term community license within the last two years then you can apply for a maximum of $50,000.

4. What are the priorities in this category?

We will prioritise:

  • Stations that were allocated a long term community radio licence in the last twelve months.
  • Applicants who have not recently received a grant in this category.
  • Applicants who do not receive support under the Indigenous Broadcasting Program (IBP).

5. What can you use the grant for?

To buy radio equipment items to assist in production of local Indigenous radio programs. This could be radio broadcast panels, audio codecs and other outside broadcasting equipment, digital audio production facilities, and studio equipment such as CD players, mixers, microphones etc.

If you are long term licensed Indigenous community radio station you are not eligible to apply for an Indigenous Equipment grant for transmission equipment.  However, you can apply for a Transmission Equipment grant.

6. What can't you use the grant for?

  • Long term licensed Indigenous community radio stations cannot apply for transmission equipment (refer to Transmission Equipment grant.)
  • Office equipment such as faxes, photocopiers and computer equipment for administration

7. What does the Grants Advisory Committee look at when assessing your application?

Applications will be competitively assessed and prioritised by reference to the following assessment criteria:

Capacity - You demonstrate that you have access to the skills and resources to undertake and complete the project.

Stakeholders - You identify people / partners who will contribute to  and  benefit from the project.

What will the equipment achieve? 

Impact - The equipment will provide lasting outcomes for your organisation, community and/or the wider community broadcasting sector.

Evaluation - You identify how you will measure the success of the project.
